Orthodox Easter

Embracing many local and personal traditions, we would like to invite you to celebrate Easter in the beautiful Transylvanian Village of Cund!

With the local tradition of egg painting, the northern German tradition of a massive bonfire which symbolizes the end of winter in my home village close to the Danish border, the fun of looking for hidden eggs and treats for kids in the large Valea Verde garden and special church services in German, Romanian and Hungarian – we will spare no effort to make your Easter break a most memorable and exciting one!

Though we also offer our regular daily changing menu featuring fish and meat, we will also be having a special culinary program during the Easter period starting with a vegan feast (yes, there is such a thing!) on Friday night, continue with a lean vegetarian menu on Saturday, before we prepare our Easter speciality: a lamb shoulder cooked in generous amounts of good red wine for over 12h as a main course on Sunday evening!

On Good Friday we will offer our guests the chance to explore the surrounding countryside on a guided walk, who will be giving some information on the unique character of this ancient landscape and its amazing wilderness. As few places in Europe are possessing a bio diversity as special as our area has, a special focus will also be directed at this and the nature of this bewitching, mostly “eatable landscape”. In the evening we invite you to join us on a small reception with a complimentary glass of Prosecco before dinner.

Saturday morning we will be offering a painting class in the Valea Verde Pavilion, where one will be able to paint eggs in a variety of different traditions using some special technics. After Dinner we will then be gathering around a large bonfire, where all guest have the chance to join in a northern German tradition by writing all things they would like to dispose of on a piece of paper. These wishes are then attached to a man-size straw puppet, which will be placed in the center of the bonfire before it is being lit. Burning this puppet, which symbolizes all “evil spirits”, will help to chase all ghost of winter away and at the same time rid us of all things we noted…

On Sunday morning all kids are invited to go looking for small nest of eggs and treats, which we have hidden in the garden of the Valea Verde and after that, we invite you to a leisurely brunch featuring a great variety of different egg dishes! In the evening we will be cooking a delicious lamb dinner for you – slow braised local lamb braised for twelve hours in red wine….

On Monday it is time to say good-by (after another relaxed breakfast) – or to stay on with us for another few days….
