In this post I would like to introduce our neighbors “Villa Vinéa” – a new winery just 18km away from the Valea Verde, which launched their still very young wines at the end of 2012. Villa Vinéa is situated in the Tarnave valley between Bahnea and Tirnaveni, just 15 km from the well known Jidvei winery. The Tarnave region used be a well known wine area before the second world war with many small and some larger wineries, but predominately white varieties were grown here. Villa Vinéa is owned by a business man from South Tirol, which had the vision to reinvent the wines from the Tarnave valley. Under the guidance of Tuscan wine maker Celestino Lucin, now based at the 800year old Augustiner Chorherrenstift Neustift (Italian Winemaker of the year in 2009) in South Tirol, the team around local wine-maker Mihaly Denes was planting all new vines in 2006-2010 and have come to the Romanian market in the last quarter of 2012. All wines are still quite immature, but you can already see their great potential! The white wines (my favorite is the Feteasca Regala from the “basic” Premium selection) are really high in alcohol, but therefor also quite easy drinking, as long as you remember the fact, they are all above 13,5% of alcohol…. Among the red ones, their house cuvée “Rubin” made from Zweigelt, Feteasca Neagra and Merlot is my absolut favorite. Though the prices at this moment are more reflecting the potential of these wines in the future rather than what´s in the bottle today, they make for a great souvenir for your visit to our region! Furthermore, we can highly recommend a visit to the vinery with a wine-tasting – the Villa Vinéa team is happily giving guests a tour of the winery! After the tour you can come to their tasting room, where one can then sample the odd wine enjoying the breathtaking views across the countryside – and from the top of the tower you can nearly see Cund….
